GCSE Physical Education

The Course

Students will study for the AQA Full Course Award in Physical Education (8582).

The course is 40% practical which includes an observation and analysis controlled assessment worth 10%. The remaining 60% is theory and will be assessed in two separate 1 hour 15 minute written exams.

What sort of student does well at this subject?

Students who enjoy PE & Sport and consistently demonstrate good practical ability in a range of sports and activities whilst trying to improve their current standards. In order to perform well, students must be interested in exploring the science behind sport, be able to write in detail and analyse data to improve performance.

The work you would do

Students will be assessed on their ability in three sports and will need to demonstrate high levels of knowledge and understanding of the skills and/or tactics involved.

The final written papers are divided into various sections which will test the students applied knowledge through short and extended answer questions.

Theory topics include: Applied anatomy and physiology; movement analysis; physical training; use of data and sports psychology.
